Watermelon Lime Moonshine Recipe

Nothing says summer like fresh watermelon — unless you kick it up a notch with a splash of moonshine!

This Watermelon Lime Moonshine is light, refreshing, a little tart, and totally addictive.
Perfect for pool parties, BBQs, or whenever you want something cold, fruity, and seriously fun.

Let’s get into it!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed (seedless if possible)
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 8–10 limes)
  • 1½ cups simple syrup (1½ cups water + 1½ cups sugar)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups Everclear (or another high-proof neutral spirit)
  • 1 cup vodka (optional, for a smoother, easier-drinking shine)
  • 1 tablespoon lime zest
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves for garnish

Tip: Use super ripe, sweet watermelon for the best flavor. If it’s a little bland, a pinch of salt will bring out the sweetness.

Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Large saucepan
  • Large bowl or pitcher
  • Mason jars or glass bottles

Instructions

Step 1: Purée the Watermelon

Blend the watermelon cubes until smooth. You should end up with about 3–4 cups of watermelon purée.

Step 2: Make the Lime Syrup

In a saucepan, combine the water, lime juice, lime zest, and simple syrup.

Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3: Strain the Watermelon

Pour the watermelon purée through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher.

Press lightly to extract as much juice as possible without forcing through too much pulp.

Step 4: Mix It All Together

Add the strained lime syrup to the watermelon juice and stir well. Let the mixture cool completely.

Step 5: Add the Alcohol

Once fully cooled, stir in the Everclear and vodka (if using).
Mix thoroughly to combine.

Note: Adjust the strength by tweaking the ratio of vodka to Everclear to fit your taste.

Step 6: Bottle and Refrigerate

Pour the finished Watermelon Lime Moonshine into clean mason jars or bottles.
Seal tightly and refrigerate.

Storing and Serving

  • Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated. Best enjoyed within 2–3 months.
  • Flavor Tip: Let it sit for 24–48 hours before drinking — the flavors meld beautifully.
  • Serving Ideas: Serve chilled over ice, top with sparkling water for a fizzy twist, or mix into tropical cocktails.
