Who is Coopers?

Coopers is the high tech Australian firm responsible for inventing the world’s first smart home brewery unit. Their best seller is BeerDroid, which I am going to review in this article. It costs, benefits, and drawbacks to an all-in-one breer brewing system.

Other than BeerDroid, the company also makes BrewPrints, which are over kits of 45 beers complete with the recipe and ingredients. They also sell a complete kegging pack. One keg holds around five liters of beer. You can purchase beer bottles and a filling tube from them as well.

Another popular product from Coopers that I love is BrewFlo, which is the world’s first temperature-controlled beer dispenser. It doesn’t use any CO2 but makes fully carbonated, rich-tasting beer that creates a frothy top every time you pour it into a glass.

Like BeerDroid, it also comes with an LCD screen display to control the serving temperature. You get the BrewArt kegging system complementary with this unit, which protects the beer from oxygen. Along with boosting the beer’s product life, BrewFlo retains the taste and makes it more flavorful.

Features of BeerDroid You Will Love

The moment you see this beer brewing device, you are going to fall in love with it. Its smooth matte-black finish and futuristic appearance with a subdued LCD display make a strong impression. Does it work as good as it looks? Let’s take a look at its exclusive high-end features:

1. Temperature control to brew the perfect beer

As the world’s first fully automated personal brewer, BeerDroid has definitely outdone itself. Brewing beer for friends and family has never been so easy. It comes with the Push Button Brewing technology, which starts the process as soon as you push the start button. All you have to do is add water and the ingredients required.

You can use the mobile app to customize the yeast propagation temperature, kegging temperature, and brewing temperature to assist you in making anything from a simple lager to fancy saisions. If you aren’t sure about the temperature settings, don’t worry because you can select the preset Lager and Ale programs. The app also saves all your temperature settings, so you don’t have to enter the numbers every time you brew your favorite beer.

2. Complete control using a mobile app

On purchase BeerDroid, you can download BrewArt, a smartphone app that helps you to monitor the brewing process and record your brewing milestones. It is free to download on iOS and Android mobile phones. It is a one-stop destination to shop BrewPrints and other BeerDroid accessories to take your brewing game to the next level.

Brewart BeerDroid Review at Homebrew Academy

BrewPrints are beer recipes of the most famous beers by the most acclaimed chefs and brewers from across the globe. With BrewPrints, you can take your brewer from a typical brew starter kit to a world-class mini-craft beer production equipment.

Another thing that you can monitor using the app is the device’s updates. The app notifies you about software updates and maintenance requirements of BeerDroid as well.

3. Beer formula is all-natural and preservative-free

All ingredients used to develop the recipes are 100% natural and additive-free. Every BrewPrint has a specific flavor profile, so you can purchase ones that you like the most and match your taste. Think of a beer variety and BrewArt will have the BrewPrint ready from you.

Whether you like the hearty traditional Irish Stout or the mild Midlands Pale Ale, BeerDroid is the right choice for you. If you are on a low carb or keto diet, you can purchase the Low Carb Dry Lager BrewPrint.

Other popular BrewPrints available to purchase include Coopers XPA, Kremlin Russian Imperial Stout, Belgian Lager, and Coopers Special Old Stout.

Our top favorite BrewPrint is the American Pale Ale, a fresh premium hop graced with the sweetness of passion fruit and the scent of pine wood with a slightly bitter after taste. The recipe comes complementary on purchase of the brewing unit.

4. WiFi connectivity for convenient monitoring

Connect the BeerDroid to your home or office’s WiFi network to access your brewing history and progress, all of which are neatly stored in the BrewArt Cloud. Whenever you come across any issue, the BrewArt team will automatically get access to the problem and assist you in solving it immediately.

If there’s a power outage, BeerDroid will save the process and history in its memory and when a WiFi connection is available, transfer the data to the cloud. It will start the process from where it stopped before the power went out, so you don’t need to throw the half-way done beer.

5. All recipes can be customized to suit your taste

As mentioned earlier, BeerDroid yields 2.6 gallons or 10 liters of beer at one time. There are so many recipes on BrewPrint to choose from. You can diversify the variety further by customizing the recipe and yeast propagation temperature.

You can either brew all grain recipes, all extract recipes, or partial mash recipes and also switch the beer brewing style. It isn’t compulsory to buy ingredients from BrewArt as long as you are using 2.6 gallons of water to brew the beer.

6. Patented End of Fermentation Technology

BeerDroid’s End of Fermentation Technology notifies you that the brewing process is done the moment it is over. You will receive a notification on your BrewArt app and it will be also mentioned on the LCD display of the device.

After the beer’s done brewing, you need to keg it, which might not be possible if you are outside the house or traveling. Use the BrewArt app put BeerDroid in storage mode. It cools down the beer’s temperature so the yeast doesn’t change the flavor and also prevents the flavors from running off, which usually happens when it sits for too long.

If you can’t access the app because of internet issues, BeerDroid automatically goes into storage mode 48 hours after the brewing process is complete. BrewFlo system by BrewArt makes kegging simple and hassle-free.

7. Sleek tap to fill glasses with fresh beer for friends and family

Once the beer’s all brewed, it is time to taste your fine production. BeerDroid comes with a two-piece tap, which is easy to assemble into the system.

It makes BeerDroid extremely accessible and has its own micro cleaning system that acts as a flush drain.

The big question – Should I Buy It?

Do you want to start brewing your own beer but don’t want to deal with the mess and clean up afterward? Have you been brewing for years but stopped because it takes too much time? Do you want to become the world’s coolest boss and treat your employees with craft beer?

If the answer to any of these three questions is yes, then you should buy BeerDroid. Yes, it is expensive but consider it as a one-time worthy investment and it won’t sound as pricey.

Before buying BeerDroid, I wasn’t sure if it was really helpful and if I would be able to brew beer as regularly as I want. But I have to agree that after trying the equipment myself, I can’t wait to try different varieties of beer and host house parties to flaunt my new skill.

So, how did BeerDroid make a difference?

I love drinking beer but never brewed it at home. I know many homebrewers who have been brewing for over 15 years now. It takes them two hours to plan and purchase ingredients, more than five hours to cook the recipe locked in the kitchen all alone, and another two hours to clean up the kitchen and fill the brew in bottles and refrigerate them properly.

While the end products were always tasty, they couldn’t brew beer more than once a month because it took way too long. Switching to BeerDroid is a great decision because it is less time-consuming and mess-free.

It comes in handy while making lager, where temperature control is crucial for a good product. Instead of five hours cooking the brew, it only takes 15 minutes to fill BeerDroid with water and empty the ingredients. You don’t even need to stir the ingredients. The BrewArt app tracks the progress and notifies you every time the process moves onto the next step.

Why you should buy BeerDroid?

Brewart BeerDroid Review at Homebrew Academy

Now, we know how difficult it is to get beer to taste the way you like. It’s why we all have our individual preferences when it comes to grabbing one. However, what BeerDroid does right is that it knows you have a personalized taste.

1. Superior quality brews made at home

The brew you make at home using BeerDroid costs only $1.60 a pint, which, I think, is a great deal. You can try different varieties of beer from across the globe and experiment with your own.

Make sure to add in around 2.6 gallons of water to the unit because it isn’t made to work if the quantity is less.

2. A modern, sophisticated design matches every contemporary home decor

The matte black finish and minimalist design looks gorgeous and blends in with different contemporary home decor. The LCD screen display is subdued, so it isn’t too bright and doesn’t stand out against the backdrop.

You will love showing off BeerDroid because it just looks too good.

3. WiFi connectivity to monitor the device

I think WiFi connectivity is the model’s best feature and the most useful as well. It keeps the BeerDroid updated and helps you access it through a smartphone app.

If you are out and won’t be reaching home until after the brewing process is done, you can switch on the storage mode to preserve the flavor and taste of your masterpiece.

4. Mobile app has many short, helpful videos

BrewArt app has a section calls 101, which has a number of short and helpful videos that cover a range of topics from setting up the device to kegging and pouring the brew in beer bottles. The app also covers over topics including sterilization and brewing.

Other than these videos, BrewArt’s video has a lot of information and help guide. Make sure to sanitize the brew before you start brewing the beer.

5. Access to over 45 beer recipes on BrewPrint

On BrewPrint, you get access to over 45 beer recipes from across the globe. You can modify the recipe as you like and invent your own as well.

The next time you go on a road trip, you don’t have to worry about not being able to find your favorite beer in the superstore. You can brew the beer only a day prior and it will be ready to go the very next day.

6. Straightforward and simple kegging process

When it comes to kegging, BeerDroid has the simplest process of all. You have to start by sanitizing the tubes and connectors, disassembling the keg caps and placing them in a pan filled with water, and then sanitizing it as well.

After you are done with the process, you have to wait for an hour before you start brewing the beer. Make sure to be very careful during the kegging sanitization process because you have to disassemble several parts, which might get lost when you are draining the water.

It is quite easy to insert the disposable liners into the plastic keg jars. After that, you have to add hop extracts, sucrose, water, and the remaining ingredients. You can refer to the 101 videos any time you want to because it has a lovely section on the entire brewing process.

Why you shouldn’t buy BeerDroid?

Since I talked about the advantages of BeerDroid, it only seems fitting to discuss its disadvantages.

1. Biggest trade-off

When you are brewing at home, you have complete control over every tiny part of the process. All products by Coopers have a walled garden protocol, which means you can only control some aspects of the process but most of them are pre-determined.

However, I don’t think it is too bad because developing a recipe takes way too long. You have to be attentive throughout the process, so you don’t really enjoy the process.

When I compare the benefit with this small disadvantage, I am okay with the trade-off. The process is cut down from 10 hours to just two hours. It doesn’t get better than this.

2. Expensive

The initial investment required by BeerDroid is a lot, but if you calculate the money you spent until now on home brewing, both amounts are the same. It costs more than a beginner homebrewer can afford or willing to invest into a new hobby.

If you want to buy the BrewFlo as well, the cost increases further. If you have a tight schedule or don’t want to spend endless hours in the kitchen, BeerDroid is the best for you. It is convenient, and you can break even very soon. Small restaurants and cafes can also use it to their benefit.

Final verdict

While the attractive features and convenience lure you into buying the advanced technology, it fails to give you a flavor of homemade beer. I was impressed by all its feature, but I do think that it creates a cookie-cutter vibe. But you also have to remember that the beer brewer is created for convenience.

I am not saying that the beer doesn’t take good but if you are someone who craves the taste of a good home-brewed beer, don’t expect to get that. Since it is a new technology, I can’t go too hard on the product because it is one-of-a-kind.

The garden wall protocol doesn’t let you choose your ingredients or accessories, which an experienced brewer will find limiting. On the other hand, if you are a newbie brewer, there’s nothing better out there than BeerDroid. It lets you explore your creativity and doesn’t pressurize you into giving the brewing process too much of your time.

However, if your aim is to brew a traditional and authentic taste, I don’t recommend buying this product. Also, if you find the model too expensive don’t buy it because there are other options available. They are more affordable but do require a little more work.

If you choose to buy the BrewPrint kits, you won’t get to learn a lot because the ingredients come packed with generic names including E1 (for minimal color, moderate bitterness, and grainy malt flavors) and X3 (for rich toffee flavors, higher perceived sweetness, and moderate color).

I will give it a 10/10 for minimalist design and convenience and 8/10 for taste. However, for the price, my rating goes down a bit to 7/10.
