Announcing The Homebrew Academy

November 29,2010 by 6 Comments

When I started BillyBrew, I began doing video tips on homebrewing because that is how I learn best. For something hands on like homebrewing, it’s easier for me to understand the process if I see it done rather than read about it. I figured I wasn’t alone, but I wasn’t prepared for the response.

Here’s a quote from a member of HomebrewTalk in response to my yeast washing video:

After extensive reading on washing yeast I decided not to try it. After watching this video, it seems so simple. I guess it is only as confusing as a person makes it out to be. Thank you very much for the video, I will definitely give it a go next time. – kmk1012

That’s not a testament to me, it’s a testament to the power of video. And that is why I am starting The Homebrew Academy.

The Homebrew Academy Will Teach You How to Homebrew

Realizing that there are a lot of potential people who are interested in homebrewing but are hesitant, I decided to start The Homebrew Academy. It is a step-by-step guide to brewing your first beer at home and making it taste great right off the bat. Videos will be used to walk students through the brewing process, but articles will be used when they’re best for the job, and interactive graphics make it a 2-way conversation.

If you’re interested in homebrewing but thought it was too confusing or too complicated, I hope this is the solution to your problems.

Because the 3-Legged Stool of brewing beer also includes equipment and ingredients, I’ve teamed up with homebrewing supplier They have generously agreed to give a 20% discount on their starter homebrewing kit to anyone who signs up for The Homebrew Academy. It’s also the exact same kit I use in the videos, so you can follow along in sync with me.

I’m thrilled to partner up with MoreBeer. I bought my very first homebrewing kit (a Nut Brown Ale) from them and still order from them to this day.

Partner will handle the supplies, and I'll show you how to use them.

If you’re interested in the course, I’ve started an early notification email list because enrollment will be limited on this first go-around. People on the early notification list will also be sent some free information over the next week that will answer their questions about homebrewing and help them decide if it’s right for them.

The first is a report that I wrote called “Choose the Right Homebrew Kit.” It covers everything you wanted to know about homebrew kits and is an expanded version of what I always tell my friends who ask about homebrewing.

To find out more, head over to The Homebrew Academy.

I’m really excited about this, and it’s just the beginning of what I have planned. A huge thanks to everyone who has known about this project and supported me along the way, and a special thanks to Sarah who had to watch many movies alone as I tinkered on my computer upstairs.

Back to your regularly scheduled BillyBrew articles later this week.

  1. DUDE! AWESOME! :)

I had a feeling something like this was just around the corner for you, and really glad that I was more or less right on the money! I think you have a lot to share with everyone that can be of some huge benefit to home brewers or home brewer wanna be’s (like myself)…and we all know that I could use some serious help with brewing.

Awesome, Billy. Really glad it’s finally here (or more or less here) and I do like the name.
